Metal is my life!  But if you saw me you probably wouldn't think that!I've been a metalhead since I was 10, and I didn't even know until I was 13! When I was younger, I used to think all metal was just screaming and shouting. I at one point called it the devils music, which I shall always regret. But on that very same day that those regretted words escaped my mouth, an Aunt of mine told me so many things I listened to were metal. I researched for a while and learned that the first bands I listened to on the radio when I was younger (Quiet Riot) and the only hard rock band I had on my 1st MP3 player (AC/DC) were both Metal. I knew then that I had been a metalhead for YEARS! And after seeing a commercial for Wishology, I instantly knew it; metal was my genre, and KISS was my band! I now have many reasons on why metal is my music; -I never really got Rap, it's just some weirdo[s] talking with a computerized beat -and the main message that it always sends is 'life sucks, so lets F*CK, drink alcohol, and do drugs; for tommorow we shall be killed in a drive-by'  -While I was raised listening country, I wanted something that really fit more to my future hard and heavy style, not just my family's style. -and Pop is only okay when it comes to 80's style. Justin 'ButtWipe' Beiber and Miley 'MoneyBags' Cyrus ruined what the King of Pop (RIP) established! But METAL made me feel more EMPOWERED, it made me feel like I belonged to something! Metal shows so many things that are important to us such as: -Masculinity (which means that you are who you are and can't be tied down, not that men are superior to women.) -Standing up for your rights and not taking anyone's crap ("We're not gonna take it ANYMOOOORE!" -Dee Snider "We've got it; THE RIGHT TO ROCK! -Keel) -Breaking stereotypes (My old english Teacher was surprised at me being a metal fan; "I thought you'd be swinging from the lights!") -Empowerment (life sucks, but you can make it better!) -Celebration (SCHOOOOOOOL'S OUT FOR SUMM-ER!" -Alice Cooper) -and so many other things! Metal has been stereotyped time and time again in the past; -Many Metal bands were and are still dubbed satanists; such as KISS standing for 'Knights In Satan's Service', or AC/DC standing for 'Anti-Christ/Devil's Child' -some bands and metal stars are viewed as people who do nothing but get high and are dumb as hell (Tipper Gore and the PMRC were all VERY surprised at Dee Snider being such a well spoken speeker when he came into the courtroom in snakeskin boots, tight jeans, cut-off denim jacket, frizzed out hair, and a little bit of make-up from the previous night still on!) -Some people in metal are viewed as gay when they wear make-up, studs, leather, and/or lingerie (but it isn't much of a gay scene backstage!) -and metal fans are dubbed as stupid and useless low-lives who do nothing but headbang and play air guitar. After all, has anyone watched my favorite cartoon, Beavis and Butthead, lately?   And yes, Being a Metal fan does make you different in today's society of rap and 'pop'. I've been made fun of in school, and by some of my family MANY times for being a metal fan: -"KISS SUCKS!" -"Twisted sister are a bunch of chicks!" -"Aerosmith sucks dude..." -"Aren't you that guy who likes KISS? I'm sorry..." -"KISS? KISS my ass!" -"METAL SUCKS!!!!" -"Isn't this weird to you?" All things have been said to me, even by other metal fans! And sometimes you feel so alone when you are a Metal fan, and a lot of people say that metal is dead, but in the words of the godfather of Metal, Ozzy Osbourne: "I keep hearing that metal is dead and Ozzy's dead and people that like Ozzy are dead. I have never had an empty seat. I've always sold out, so who's saying it's all over?" To end this off let me say: Metal is a genre that shall NEVER die! Even after all the bombs have been dropped, there'll be a cockroach somewhere playing a heavy rift on an electric guitar.  METAL NOW! METAL FOREVER! |
